A Brief History of Rice

Process of production - processing of exported rice includes of three main stages, as follows:

a. Treating and husking paddy:

Harvest:
Ripe paddy is harvested mostly manually, after that they omit the straw and other organic and inorganic impurities. In the Spring- Winter crop, the peasants sun-dry paddy, in the Autumn - Summer crop, they dry paddy under a white nylon or dry by machine until the humidity at 17-18%.

Purchasing and controlling the quality:
After purchasing the preliminarily treated paddy, we have to take sample for control of the input raw-material. And the sample will be analyzed the specifications such as humidity, impurities, transparent grain, diseased grain, young grain,..., by the professional test instruments for rice. Paddy of class 1 is used to produce the normal rice as 20%, 30% broken….

Industrial drying:
Paddy which doesn’t meet yet the necessary humidity, we have to treat the humidity by drying machine, so that this doesn’t influence on the quality of rice or decrease the collection rate after husking.

Husking:
Treated paddy will be transported to the husking machine system including of screening the impurities. After that they separate the rice husk, unpolished rice and finally they whiten rice with the quantity of bran in accordance with the requirements as material rice or finished rice for domestic consummation.

b. Polishing and packing rice:

Polishing rice and assessing
The raw material rice transported from the husking machine or bought from the supplying husking machines will be polished.

First, the raw material rice is screened to reject the impurities and paddy. If it is the white raw material rice, they can put directly to the polishing machine, if it is bran raw material rice, they have to clean before polishing.

This process applies the dew spraying technology to create the humidity in combining the friction among the rice grains and the blades of polishing machine by centrifugal and rice will be cleaned and polished.

The polished rice will be screened the broken and classified to choose the rice meeting the standards for export, or the semi finished rice which will be polished for the second time.

Specially for rice of Pass-02, it will be polished for the second time, cooled, controlled, classified, then mixed to meet the standards of required quality.

The assessed finished rice is transferred to mixing machine and packed. Each kind of rice is stored at the private vase. From there, they clean rice before transferring to the general vase.

For this stage, the rice will be controlled by the controllers of the survey organs such as FCC, SGS, VINACONTROL,...

It depends on the composition and quality, the raw-material rice will be divided many kinds, such as: 5% broken, 10% broken, 15% broken, 20% broken, 25% broken,... and it depends on its humidity, they will treat them.

Basing on the classification of rice, each kind will be processed to have the correlative finished rice meeting the standards of quality for export.

Packing:
To have the homogeneity of the products and to meet the standards as required by the export contract, from the store the finished rice is packed in PP bags of the weight under the requirement of the contract, the bags are sewed twice by cotton thread in parallel to make sure in loading and unloading during the transport.

There is a special team to control the goods at the warehouses that they could treat in time if there arrive the destroying insects, to maintain the environment inside and outside of the warehouses; and to limit maximum the goods downgraded.

c. Loading, unloading and transport of finished rice to the Port for export:

Transport and delivery of goods
+ After packing, the finished rice is loaded by the workers on the barge, the loading capacity at the import-export wharf is about 200 - 300 tons of rice/day. It depends on the requirement, they can fumigate insects at the warehouse or on the barges.

+ From the wharf, the barge will transports the rice to the delivery port not over 24 hours.

During the process of production, maintenance and commercial exchange, our company carries out well the following:

  • Process of hygiene and safety of food, to use right the medicine for fumigating insects.

  • Process of quality management, to create the stability and homogeneity of the products.
  • Specifications and standards meet the conditions for export in accordance with each contract.


PROCESS OF ACTIVITIES OF BUYING THE INPUT RAW-MATERIAL

Process of determining the quality of the input raw-materials is realized by our company through four following steps:

The first step: taking the sample and determining the purchase price
To control the product in taking sample to determine the following basic targets:

+ To determine the humidity of the sample
+ The whole grain
+ Some targets of quality
+ To determine the purchase price of the input raw-materials and to meet the agreement on the buying method with the sellers

The targets of quality is based on the result of the analysis in comparing to the economical and technique rate established by the South Food General Company and the list of calculation of the cost price of the company and on the scale of recovery to determine the purchase price.

The second step: controlling the input raw-materials

To control all the input raw-materials, and to reject the bags which don't meet the standards of the sample.

The third step: Analyzing the real sample
To control and take the real sample to analyze the targets:

+ To determine the humidity of the real sample
+ The whole grain
+ Some targets of quality

The fourth step: deciding to buy
In comparing the representative sample to the real sample, if the result meets 95% and over, we can decide to buy with the primitive price. On the contrary, it depends on the result of comparison, they can decrease the purchase price at the acceptable level for the sellers.
